Singapore (NUS) recently participated in RunNUS 2013, a race around the University’s Kent Ridge Campus, to raise funds for student bursaries.
The event, which enjoyed a turnout of 2,114 runners, raised more than S$70,000. This was significantly more than the S$47,879 raised last year with 2,274 participants.
RunNUS Project Director Nicholas Aw, a Third Year Engineering student, said, “At RunNUS, regardless of being a runner, volunteer or sponsor, you are giving back to the NUS community in your own way. I am proud to have been part of the team that has created this platform.”
This year, several companies also showed their support for RunNUS 2013. A spokesperson for Keppel Corporation, one of the organisations which participated in the race and entered a team of 10 runners, said, “We are pleased to participate in this event to give back to the community. As a company that seeks to shape a sustainable future, we are glad that our contributions will help needy students and are heartened to see such efforts to nurture the younger generation.”
RunNUS is an annual event organised by the University’s Students’ Sports Club, and a partner of the NUS Annual Giving campaign. The campaign brings together the NUS community in support of various initiatives that enhance the educational experience of NUS students, with a primary focus on bursaries and scholarships.
The proceeds from RunNUS registrations and pledges go towards the NUS Annual Giving Campaign to help fund bursaries for students facing financial difficulties and will enable a greater number of students to benefit from student support.
