In November 2007, NUS Business School received a pledge of S$21 million from Indonesia business conglomerate Lippo Group. It marked Lippo Group’s first gift to NUS and the contribution was the single largest gift from a private donor to the Business School. The gift from Lippo Group attracts a dollar-for-dollar endowed matching grant from the Singapore Government, which translates to a total of S$42 million in funding support for the Business School.
Of the S$21 million gift, the first $15 million will go towards the development of the School’s new flagship building, named in honour of the Group’s Founder and Chairman, Mochtar Riady.
The remaining $6 million from the $21 million gift, will endow two distinguished Professorships at the School. The Professorships are named the Stephen Riady Distinguished Professorship and James Riady Distinguished Professorship, in honour of Dr Stephen Riady, President of Lippo Group of Companies and Dr James Riady, Chief Executive Officer of Lippo Group of Companies.
The income generated from the Stephen Riady Distinguished Professorship fund will enable the School to enhance its capacity to nurture future generations of leaders for the global marketplace by attracting distinguished academics to share their expertise and experience. It is also important that their contributions and insights can enhance the research and teaching efforts of the School by co-operating in research and education with other faculty members.
