The ExxonMobil Professorship in Engineering, previously known as the NUS-Mobil Professorship, was established in 1998 with a contribution of S$1.5 million from ExxonMobil. The contribution was matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government.

The ExxonMobil Chair is used to support three technical areas: Chemical Engineering (in general), Logistics and Process Control. The income generated from this professorship fund is used to bring to Singapore eminent professors to share their expertise and experience. The Professorship can also help to create a platform for vigorous intellectual exchanges between the visiting professors and faculty members and students, including collaborative research with faculty members.
