The Chen Su Lan Centennial Professorship of Medical Ethics was established in 2005 in honour of the late Dr Chen Su Lan, one of Singapore’s first medical graduates. This professorship was established during the centennial year of NUS in 2005. It was made possible by a gift of S$2.5 million from the Chen Su Lan Trust. The gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Singapore Government.
The aim is to develop a programme which has an integrated approach, which is theoretical as well as applied, so that students can be equipped with the intellectual and practical tools to deal with both the existing and the new ethical challenges that face the medical profession.
Emeritus Professor of Ethics in Medicine and Research Fellow, Centre for Ethics in Medicine, Medical School, University of Bristol
Period of appointment: 1 August 2006 to 30 June 2010
