They see the students every day; they notice their highs; they sense their lows. So it seemed the most logical step for the staff of the NUS Office of Housing Services (OHS) at Prince George’s Park Residences (PGPR) to help students in financial need by making a gift to Annual Giving, which supports student bursaries. Sixty-eight percent of OHS staff at PGPR responded to the Annual Giving Lunar New Year Appeal, making them the group with the highest participation in the University.
Nancy Yeo, Operations Associate, works closely with the students who live in PGPR, even bringing food to their rooms when they are sick and checking to see that they are getting better.
She says, “I am a single parent and I understand the importance of contributing to needy students. In fact, my son was fortunate enough to receive a bursary, which helped him a lot.”
Jamuna d/o Karuppaiah, who works at the PGPR Front Desk, says, “In our interactions with students, we sometimes come across students with financial difficulties. Rather than give individually, we decided to pool our resources and give as a team.”
Deborah Wong Yun Yue, Conference Marketing Executive, who received a bursary during her student days, is also keenly aware of the difference that financial aid makes to a student’s life. “My sister and I both received bursaries and it was a huge help. I am just paying it forward.”
Make a gift to Annual Giving and help deserving students.
