The Academic Year is ending and Final Year students at the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) are working hard to raise as much support as possible for the 2013 Commencement Class Giving campaign.
Every year, Commencement Class Giving brings graduating NUS students together to raise funds as a gift to juniors in their Faculties. The gifts contribute to student support.
To kick-start their campaign, the FASS Commencement Class Champions set up a “giving booth” in their home Faculty. In the true spirit of giving juniors a helping hand, former FASS Commencement Class Champion Shaun Lin (’11) came back to NUS to give them a hand.
FASS Commencement Class champion Nadine Koh, who received a bursary, says, “I am really grateful for all the financial assistance I have received over the course of my studies in NUS. Never have I been excluded from any opportunity because of my financial background. I would like to give back to the University and do my part to support my juniors.”
Associate Professor T C Chang, FASS Vice Dean (External Relations and Student Life) also showed his support. Over the course of two days, he worked alongside staff and Commencement Class champions, actively encouraging students and staff to give at the booth.
The strong support and dedication paid off as the booth saw 703 gifts from students from all years at the Faculty, faculty members and staff.
Associate Professor Chang says, “It was wonderful to meet our students and faculty members while standing along the AS1 corridor, explaining to them what the campaign is all about. It was most heart-warming to encounter many who had just a few dollars in their wallets and who donated what they had, all for an excellent cause.”
